The Valacyclovir in these tablets works by killing or stopping the growth of the virus in the body, thereby halting the spread of infection and helping you recover faster.
Each tablet contains Valacyclovir (or Valaciclovir), which is an antiviral medication.
It is used to treat viral infections such as herpes zoster (shingles), cold sores, and genital herpes. Valacyclovir is an antiviral drug used in the treatment of herpes labialis, genital herpes infections, and shingles infections.
It prevents the replication of viruses in human cells and clears the infection.
It is used in adults to treat shingles caused by herpes zoster and cold sores around the mouth. Valacyclovir is also used to treat genital herpes outbreaks in people with frequent recurrences; this medication is used to reduce the number of future episodes. Use Valacyclovir exactly as directed by your physician.
Do Not Take:
- If you are allergic to Valacyclovir, Acyclovir, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
- If you have ever developed an extended skin rash accompanied by fever, enlarged lymph nodes, increased liver enzyme levels, and/or eosinophilia (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms - DRESS) after taking Valacyclovir.
- Do not take Valacyclovir if any of the above apply to you. If you are unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Valacyclovir.
How to Use:
- The tablet should be taken as directed by your doctor. Swallow it whole with a glass of water.
- It can be taken with or without food. It is essential to take it regularly and at a fixed time.
- Follow your doctor's instructions and do not exceed the recommended dose of this medication.
- Herpetrex (Valacyclovir) 500 mg tablets should be taken in the dose and duration advised by your doctor.
- Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
- It can be taken with or without food, but it is best taken at a specific time.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Kidney Function: Inform your healthcare provider if you have kidney problems, as a dose adjustment may be necessary.
- Hydration: Maintain adequate hydration during treatment to prevent dehydration, especially in the elderly.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Allergic Reactions: Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
- Side Effects: Headache, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, skin reaction after exposure to sunlight (photosensitivity), and skin redness.
