Diloxanide + Metronidazole belongs to a group of medicines known as antibiotics used to treat various infections caused by bacteria and parasites (amoeba).
It is prescribed for the treatment of diarrhea caused by:
Clostridium difficile, Entamoeba histolytica, and Giardia lamblia.
It also treats bacterial vaginal infections, dental infections, post-operative infections, and bacterial skin infections.
Infections caused by amoeba usually occur due to drinking contaminated water or eating food containing contaminated water.
Diarrhea is defined as loose, watery stools or frequent bowel movements.
Diloxanide is an amoebicide. It works within the large intestine to kill the infection-causing amoeba (parasites).
Metronidazole + Diloxanide is a combination of two drugs:
Metronidazole and Diloxanide:
Treats infection by damaging the organism's DNA and killing the bacteria.
Metronidazole is an antibiotic:
Kills bacteria and other microorganisms that cause infection by damaging the DNA.
Diloxanide is an amoebicide:
It works within the large intestine to kill the infection-causing amoeba (parasites). Together, they effectively treat the infection.

Usage Instructions:
Take Diloxanide + Metronidazole as directed by your doctor.
It is recommended to take Diloxanide + Metronidazole for the entire duration of your prescription.
Take the tablets exactly as prescribed by your doctor depending on your medical condition.
The usual dose is one tablet three times a day for 10 days; take one tablet every eight hours.
You can take the tablets with or without food.
Even if you feel better, continue taking the tablets until the course is finished (unless your doctor tells you to stop).
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember.
Try to take the correct number of doses each day but do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.
Warnings and Precautions:
Diloxanide + Metronidazole is contraindicated in patients with central nervous system (CNS) disorders such as seizures (convulsions).
Diloxanide + Metronidazole should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester.
Therefore, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
You should not breastfeed while taking Diloxanide + Metronidazole as it passes into breast milk and can affect the baby.
Do not drive or operate heavy machinery after taking Diloxanide + Metronidazole as it may cause dizziness, drowsiness, and make you less alert.
