Why Doxycycline is used:
Doxycycline is used to treat various types of infections, including:
Respiratory tract infections (chest, lung, or nose)
Urinary tract infections
Acne (pimples)
Eye infections
Sexually transmitted diseases
Malaria when chloroquine is ineffective
It can also be used to prevent certain types of infections.
Do not take Doxycycline:
If you are allergic to the active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Warnings and Precautions:
Tell your doctor about all your health conditions, including:
If you will be exposed to strong sunlight or ultraviolet light.
If you suffer from myasthenia gravis.
If you have liver or kidney problems.
If you suffer from systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
If you suffer from porphyria, a blood disorder.
If you have severe diarrhea after prolonged use of antibiotics.
Taking this medicine for longer than recommended can lead to a secondary infection.
Possible Side Effects:
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; itching; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat.
The frequency of these side effects is unknown.
Contact your doctor if you experience:
Bloody diarrhea
Fever, swollen lymph nodes, or rash
Very severe headache which may be associated with visual disturbances such as blurred vision, double vision, or loss of vision.
Other Medicines and Doxycycline:
Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, especially:
Antacids
Epilepsy (seizure) medications
Warfarin
Oral contraceptives
Retinoids
How to take Doxycycline:
This medicine is not recommended for children under 8 years of age.
Take this medicine as directed by your doctor.
Take this medicine with a full glass of water.
If it causes stomach upset, take it with food.
The usual dose is 100-200 mg daily depending on the infection condition.
How to store Doxycycline:
Store at room temperature from 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 25 degrees Celsius).
Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the box.
*The form and method of administration of Doxycycline 100 mg capsules and 10 mg/ml syrup should be prescribed according to the therapeutic indication and severity of the disease for each individual patient.
