Mechanism of Action of Cephalexin
Cephalexin is an oral cephalosporin. Like penicillin, it is a beta-lactam antibiotic. It works by binding to specific proteins located within the bacterial cell wall, thereby preventing the formation of the bacterial cell wall. Without a cell wall, the bacterial cell is vulnerable to external water and pressures, leading to rapid bacterial death.
