Product Description:
Moxifloxacin is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.
This medication belongs to a class of drugs called quinolone antibiotics.
It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.
It only treats diseases caused by bacteria.
It will not work for viral infections (such as the common cold or flu).
Using any antibiotic when it is not needed can lead to it being ineffective for future infections.
Instructions for Use:
Acute Bacterial Sinusitis:
400 mg oral tablet once daily for 5-10 days.
Usage Limitations:
Reserve fluoroquinolones for patients who have no other treatment options available for acute sinusitis.
Community-Acquired Pneumonia:
400 mg oral tablet once daily for 7-14 days.
Acute Exacerbation of Chronic Bronchitis:
Indicated for acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis caused by bacterial infections.
400 mg oral tablet once daily for 5 days.
Usage Limitations:
Reserve fluoroquinolones for patients who have no other treatment options available for acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis.
Skin and Skin Structure Infections:
Uncomplicated:
400 mg oral tablet once daily for 7 days.
Complicated:
400 mg oral tablet once daily for 7-21 days.
Intra-abdominal Infections:
Complicated:
400 mg oral tablet once daily for 5-14 days.
Plague and Septicemia:
Indicated for adults to treat plague, including pneumonic and septicemic plague, caused by susceptible isolates of Yersinia pestis; it is also used for plague prophylaxis in adults.
400 mg oral tablet once daily for 10-14 days.
Start administration as soon as possible after suspected or confirmed exposure to Yersinia pestis.
Pediatric Dosage (Ages 0 to 17 years):
This medication has not been confirmed as safe and effective for use in children under 18 years of age.
Warnings and Precautions:
It is very important that your doctor checks your progress at regular visits while using this medicine to ensure it is working correctly.
Blood and urine tests are needed to check for any unwanted effects.
If you have low potassium levels in your blood, Moxifloxacin may increase the risk of fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat, loss of consciousness, or fainting spells.
If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately.
This medication may cause serious allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening and require immediate medical attention.
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience itching, hives, hoarseness, difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, or any swelling of your hands, face, or mouth after taking this medication.
Serious side effects can occur during treatment with this medication and can sometimes happen without warning. Possible warning signs include black or tarry stools, blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, bloody or cloudy urine, chills, decreased urination, diarrhea, fever, joint or muscle pain, or red skin lesions, often with a purple center, sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips, severe stomach pain, skin rash, swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs, unusual bleeding or bruising, unusual weight gain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes.
Consult your doctor immediately if you notice any of these warning signs.
Moxifloxacin may decrease the number of certain types of blood cells in your body.
For this reason, you may bleed or get infections more easily.
To help resolve these issues, avoid being near people who are sick or have infections.
Wash your hands often. Stay away from rough sports or other situations where you could be bruised, cut, or injured.
Brush and floss your teeth gently. Be careful when using sharp tools, including razors and nail clippers.
Moxifloxacin may cause diarrhea, and in some cases, it can be severe.
It may occur two months or more after you stop taking this medication.
Do not take any medication to treat diarrhea without consulting your doctor first.
Diarrhea medications may worsen the diarrhea or make it last longer.
