Herpetrex 500 mg 10 Tablets:
An anti-inflammatory treatment for infections caused by herpes viruses, including genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles.
How Herpetrex Works:
Valacyclovir is rapidly and almost completely converted into acyclovir. Acyclovir is an antiviral medication that works by interfering with viral DNA polymerase to prevent the replication of the virus's DNA, thereby eliminating the virus.
Uses of Herpetrex:
- Treatment of shingles (a skin condition caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox) in adults.
- Treatment of herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and genital herpes in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age. It is also used to help prevent these infections from recurring.
- Treatment of cold sores in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
- Prevention of CMV infection after organ transplantation in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
- Treatment and prevention of recurring herpes simplex virus infections of the eye in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age.
How to Use Herpetrex:
- Take Herpetrex with or without food, as advised by your doctor.
- Do not break, chew, or crush Herpetrex in your mouth.
- Swallow Herpetrex whole with a sufficient amount of water.
- Avoid taking more or less than the recommended dose.
- Complete the recommended duration of treatment for better results.
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, as it may increase the risk of kidney damage if you are dehydrated.
- Consult your doctor if you experience any unwanted effects that persist or worsen.

- Avoid taking it if you are allergic to it, and seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as rash, severe dizziness, or breathing difficulties.
Side Effects:
Although the following side effects are not common for everyone, some patients may complain of:
- Headache
- Nausea (feeling sick)
- Dizziness
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Skin reaction after exposure to sunlight (photosensitivity)
- Skin redness
- Itching
Herpetrex and Other Medications:
If you are taking any of the following medications, inform your doctor or pharmacist, as you may need a dose adjustment or specific tests. The following medications have a harmful effect on the kidneys:
- Lithium
- Methotrexate
- Painkillers and arthritis medications (e.g., Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Diclofenac)
- Ulcerative colitis medications (e.g., Sulfasalazine)
- Organ transplant rejection medications (e.g., Tacrolimus)
- Injectable antibiotics (e.g., Bacitracin)
- Antifungals (e.g., Foscarnet)
- Cancer medications (e.g., Cisplatin)
