Mechanism of Action of Eye Lubricants
Lubricating eye drops work by moisturizing the eye through multiple mechanisms, including direct hydration and replacing missing tear components. They may also alleviate the effects of inflammatory substances.
Medical Uses of Biosoft Eye Drops
This medication is used to relieve dry, irritated eyes. Common causes of dry eyes include wind, sun, heating/air conditioning, reading, continuous use of mobile devices or computers, and certain medications. It can also be used to treat dry eyes caused by wearing contact lenses.
How to Use Biosoft Eye Drops
Eye products are usually sterile; ensure the packaging is intact before use and close the cap tightly after your dose (if using a single-use unit, discard it immediately after use).
Tilt your head back slightly and look up.
Pull the lower eyelid down.
With the other hand, turn the eye drop bottle upside down near your eye. Try not to touch your eye while doing this.
Apply enough pressure to release one drop (or the contents of the ampoule) into your eye.
Ensure the medication has entered your eye.
Close your eye for a minute or two and press gently on the side of your nose; this prevents the drops from draining and keeps the medication in place.
The recommended dose is one or two drops (or ampoules) in the affected eye(s) as needed.
A higher dose may be prescribed for severe dryness.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure how to use this medication.
Dosages may change under special circumstances, so always follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.
If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital immediately.
If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is time for the next dose.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.
Side Effects of Biosoft Eye Drops
Although the following side effects are not common for everyone, some patients may complain of:
Blurred vision
Mild eye irritation or burning sensation
Use of Biosoft Eye Drops During Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Your doctor will discuss the potential risks and benefits of using this medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Useful Tips to Reduce Dry Eyes
Frequent reading, watching TV, and using computers or mobiles can lead to dry eyes, so it is important to rest your eyes periodically.
If you use contact lenses, it is sometimes advised to reduce wearing hours. Ensure you change them on schedule (know if your lenses are daily disposables or for a specific duration).
Avoid direct sun exposure and wear sunglasses.
Ensure proper hydration by drinking plenty of water.
Make sure to remove eyelid makeup using Systane Wipes.
Some studies show that Omega-3 supplements, such as Omegat capsules, may help prevent dry eyes.
Lubricating eye drops, such as Systane drops, can be highly beneficial.
