Why Bisoprolol is used
This medication is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Do not use Bisoprolol
If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other components of this medicine.
Warnings and Precautions
• You suffer from severe asthma or chronic lung disease.
• You have severe blood circulation problems in the limbs (such as Raynaud's syndrome), which may cause your fingers and toes to tingle or turn pale or blue.
• You have an untreated pheochromocytoma, which is a rare tumor of the adrenal gland.
• You have metabolic acidosis, a condition where there is too much acid in the blood.
• Acute heart failure or heart failure that suddenly worsens and/or may require hospitalization.
• Slow heart rate.
• Very low blood pressure.
• Certain heart conditions that cause a very slow heart rate or irregular heartbeat.
• Cardiogenic shock, which is a serious acute heart condition causing low blood pressure and circulatory failure.
Consult your doctor if you have any of the following conditions:
• Diabetes mellitus.
• Strict fasting (abstaining from solid food).
• Certain heart diseases such as heart rhythm disorders or severe chest pain at rest (Prinzmetal's angina).
• Kidney or liver diseases.
• Less severe blood circulation problems in your limbs.
• Less severe asthma or chronic lung disease.
• A history of scaly skin rash (psoriasis).
• Adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma).
• Thyroid disorder.
Possible Side Effects
Stop using the product and seek immediate medical attention if you experience throat tightness, swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or tongue, feel faint, or have difficulty breathing. Stop using the product if you develop hives or itching on the face or body.
Other Medicines and Bisoprolol
• Water medicines that control blood pressure or heart problem medications (e.g., amiodarone, amlodipine, clonidine, digitalis glycosides, diltiazem, disopyramide, felodipine, flecainide, lidocaine, methyldopa, moxonidine, phenytoin, propafenone, quinidine, rilmenidine).
• Medicines for depression such as imipramine, amitriptyline, moclobemide.
• Medicines to treat mental illnesses such as phenothiazines like levomepromazine.
• Medicines used for anesthesia during surgery (see also "Take care with Bisoprolol tablets").
• Medicines used to treat epilepsy, e.g., barbiturates such as phenobarbital.
• Certain painkillers (e.g., acetylsalicylic acid, diclofenac, indomethacin, ibuprofen, naproxen).
• Asthma medicines or medicines used to treat nasal congestion.
• Medicines used for certain eye disorders such as glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) or used to dilate the pupil.
• Certain medicines to treat clinical shock (e.g., adrenaline, dobutamine, noradrenaline).
• Mefloquine, a medicine for malaria.
• All these medicines, in addition to Bisoprolol, may affect blood pressure and/or heart function.
• Rifampicin for treating infections.
• Medicines to treat severe headaches or migraines (ergotamine derivatives).
How to use Bisoprolol
Treatment with Bisoprolol Fumarate tablets should start at a low dose and then be increased gradually. Your doctor will decide how to increase the dose, usually in the following manner:
• 1.25 mg Bisoprolol Fumarate once daily for one week.
• 2.5 mg Bisoprolol Fumarate once daily for one week.
• 3.75 mg Bisoprolol Fumarate once daily for one week.
• 5 mg Bisoprolol Fumarate once daily for four weeks.
• 7.5 mg Bisoprolol Fumarate once daily for four weeks.
• 10 mg Bisoprolol Fumarate once daily for maintenance therapy.
The maximum recommended daily dose of Bisoprolol Fumarate is 10 mg.
How to store Bisoprolol
Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the carton. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Do not store above 30°C. Keep the container tightly closed. Do not use if you notice any damage to the outer packaging.
Do not dispose of any medicines via wastewater or household waste.
