Why Candesartan Cilexetil is used:
Candesartan Cilexetil is used to treat:
High blood pressure (Hypertension).
Heart failure (weakened heart) with reduced heart muscle function when ACE inhibitors cannot be used, or as an add-on therapy.
Do not take Candesartan Cilexetil:
If you are allergic to the active ingredients or any of the other components of this medication.
If you are pregnant.
If you suffer from severe liver disease or biliary obstruction.
If you have diabetes or kidney problems and are being treated with a medicine called Aliskiren.
In children under one year of age.
Warnings and Precautions:
Inform your doctor about all your medical conditions, including:
If you have heart problems.
If you have liver problems.
If you have kidney problems, are on dialysis, or have recently had a kidney transplant.
If you are suffering or have recently suffered from severe vomiting or diarrhea.
If you have an adrenal gland disease called Conn's syndrome (also known as primary hyperaldosteronism).
If you have low blood pressure.
If you have ever had a stroke.
If you are taking any of the following medicines: ACE inhibitors (such as Enalapril, Lisinopril, Ramipril), Aliskiren, or a Mineralocorticoid Receptor Antagonist (MRA).
Possible Side Effects:
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; itching; red, blistered, or peeling skin; chest or throat tightness; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency of these side effects is unknown.
Side effects include:
Dizziness
Headache
Upper respiratory tract infection
Changes in kidney function
Other Medicines and Candesartan Cilexetil:
Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking.
Especially inform your doctor if you are taking:
Other blood pressure-lowering medications.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as Ibuprofen and Diclofenac.
Acetylsalicylic acid (if taking more than 3g per day).
Potassium supplements.
Heparin (to prevent blood clots).
Water tablets (diuretics).
Lithium (for mental health problems).
How to take Candesartan Cilexetil:
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Take this medication at the same time each day.
Take this medication with or without food.
The usual dose ranges between 4-8 mg per day. Your doctor may increase the dose up to 32 mg if necessary.
For children, the usual dose ranges between 4-8 mg per day. The doctor may increase the dose up to 16 mg if necessary.
How to store Candesartan Cilexetil:
Store at room temperature below 86°F (30°C).
Keep this medication out of reach of children.
Do not use this medication after the expiry date stated on the package.
