Mechanism of Action of Amlodipine
Amlodipine inhibits the influx of calcium ions into cells, with a greater effect on vascular smooth muscle cells. This leads to vasodilation and reduces vascular resistance to blood flow, thereby lowering blood pressure.
Medical Uses of Lodipam 5 mg Tablets
- For the treatment of patients with hypertension: Hypertension is a common condition where the long-term force of the blood against artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.
- For the treatment of patients with coronary artery disease (chronic stable angina, vasospastic angina)
How to use Lodipam 5 mg Tablets
- Take the medication exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
- Take the tablet with a glass of water.
- If you take this medication once daily, take it in the morning.
- Recommended adult dose: 5 mg once daily, up to a maximum of 10 mg once daily.
- Small, frail, elderly patients, or patients with hepatic insufficiency may start at a dose of 2.5 mg once daily.
- Pediatric dose: 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily.
- Dosages may change under special circumstances; always follow your doctor’s or pharmacist’s instructions.
- If you take more than you should, talk to a doctor or go to the hospital immediately.
- If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten one.
Side Effects of Lodipam 5 mg Tablets
- The most common side effects are headache and edema (swelling), which occur in a dose-dependent manner.
- Other non-dose-dependent side effects reported include fatigue, nausea, abdominal pain, and somnolence (sleepiness).

- Reduce salt consumption by avoiding high-sodium foods like salted nuts and pickles, and replace them with fresh green salads.
- Exercise regularly.
- Measure blood pressure regularly. Patients are advised to have a home monitoring device such as Beurer or Omron electronic blood pressure monitors.
Precautions when measuring blood pressure:
- Check the accuracy of your device before first use.
- Measure blood pressure twice daily.
- Do not measure immediately after waking up; prepare for the day but do not eat breakfast or take medications before measuring.
- Avoid food, caffeine, or smoking 30 minutes before measurement.
- Sit quietly before and during the measurement. Sit for five minutes in a comfortable position with legs and ankles relaxed and your back supported by a chair.
- Place the cuff directly on the skin, not over clothing.
- Do not talk during the measurement.
Warnings and Precautions for Lodipam 5 mg Tablets
- Symptomatic hypotension is possible. However, due to the gradual onset of the drug, acute hypotension is unlikely.
- Worsening angina and acute myocardial infarction can develop after starting or increasing the dose of Amlodipine, particularly in patients with severe obstructive coronary artery disease.
- Increase the dose slowly in patients with severe hepatic impairment.
- Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medications you are taking, including over-the-counter products, before starting Amlodipine.

- Store at a temperature below 25°C.
- Do not refrigerate.
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date stated on the box/blister/label. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
