Pioglitazone / Glimepiride is used along with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Do not take Pioglitazone / Glimepiride:
- If you are allergic to Pioglitazone, Glimepiride, or sulfa drugs.
- If you suffer from severe or advanced heart failure.
- If you have active bladder cancer.
- If you suffer from diabetic ketoacidosis.
Warnings and Precautions:

- Insulin: Taking Pioglitazone / Glimepiride while using insulin may increase the risk of serious heart disease.
- Strong CYP2C8 inhibitors: A strong CYP2C8 inhibitor increases exposure to Pioglitazone by approximately 3-fold.
- Colesevelam: When Colesevelam is taken with Glimepiride, the maximum plasma concentration and total exposure of Glimepiride are reduced.
- Oral Miconazole.
- Drugs that increase the activity of CYP2C8 or CYP2C9 enzymes, such as Rifampin.
How to take Pioglitazone / Glimepiride:
Usual adult dose for Type 2 Diabetes:
- Individualize the dose based on safety, efficacy, and prior therapy.
- Initial dose: Pioglitazone 30 mg / Glimepiride 2 mg or Pioglitazone 30 mg / Glimepiride 4 mg orally once daily.
- Maintenance dose: Titrate the dose gradually based on the adequacy of therapeutic response and tolerance for each component.
Take it with the first meal of the day.
How to store Pioglitazone / Glimepiride:
- Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.
- Store at room temperature away from moisture, heat, and light.
- Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.
- Store Pioglitazone / Glimepiride at 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit (15 to 30 degrees Celsius). Keep it in the original container to protect it from light.
