Glimepiride 6 mg Tablets
Why Glimepiride is used:
Glimepiride is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent) as an adjunct to a proper diet and exercise.
Do not take Glimepiride:
• If you are allergic to Glimepiride, other sulfonylureas, sulfonamides, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
• If you have type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent).
• If you suffer from diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where blood sugar levels are very high and you experience nausea, frequent urination, fatigue, and muscle weakness).
• If you are in a diabetic coma.
• If you have serious liver problems.
• If you have kidney problems.
Warnings and Precautions:
Inform your doctor about all your health conditions, including if:
• You are recovering from an injury, surgery, feverish infection, or other forms of stress.
• You have liver or kidney problems.
• You have a deficiency in an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD).
This medicine may cause a decrease in blood sugar levels, especially if you miss a meal, exercise excessively, or drink alcohol. Signs of low blood sugar include: nausea, hunger, shaking, dizziness, confusion, drowsiness, difficulty speaking, and sweating. You can consume a sugar cube or some juice.
Possible Side Effects:
Stop using this product and seek immediate medical attention if you develop a rash; itching; red, blistered, or peeling skin; tightness in the chest or throat; difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking; unusual hoarseness; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, tongue, or throat. The frequency of these side effects is unknown.
Serious Side Effects:

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you are taking, including:
• Medicines for pain and inflammation
• Other medicines to treat diabetes
• Anticoagulants such as Warfarin
• Medicines used to treat high blood pressure
• Medicines used for irregular heartbeat
• Medicines used to lower blood cholesterol
• Medicines used to treat mood disorders
• Certain antibiotics
• Antifungals
• Cancer treatments
• Birth control pills
• Medicines for asthma and nasal congestion
• Steroids
• Medicines for stomach ulcers such as Cimetidine
How to take Glimepiride:
• This drug is intended for adults only.
• Take this drug exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
• Take this drug with food, specifically with the first meal of the day.
• The usual starting dose is one 1 mg tablet once daily with breakfast. Your doctor may gradually increase it to a maximum of 8 mg per day.
How to store Glimepiride:
• Store at room temperature from 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C).
• Keep this medicine out of reach of children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiration date stated on the box.
